The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Purpose:
The Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com) in Human Resources is a formative Degree that will:
  • Enable learners to develop graduate level knowledge, discipline specific skills and applied competence in Commerce and Industry that provide opportunities for continued personal intellectual growth, gainful employment and making a rewarding contribution to society.
  • Empower graduates to solve commercial problems in a general and focused way, to effectively manage and allocate resources, to communicate effectively, and to contribute to socio-economic transformation in a responsible and ethical manner.
  • Provide South Africa with significant numbers of commerce graduates, particularly from disadvantaged communities, in order to ensure that the leadership base of innovative and knowledge-based economic and scholarly activity is strengthened and diversified.

    Rationale:
  • Bachelor of Commerce (B Com) Human Resource Management graduates have a number of career options as a Human Resource Practitioner depending on their interest and work specialisation.
  • These options include Personnel Administration and Management; recruiting and selection of staff for businesses; Human Resource Trainers for specialist work skills; working on organisational structures and reward schemes; re-aligning organisational structures due to internal and external changes; guiding the performance management systems; managing stress situations amongst staff members or acting as Industrial Relations Specialists liaising with the internal workforce, labour unions and government on labour disputes.

    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
    The structure of this qualification makes the Recognition of Prior Learning possible. This qualification may therefore be accessed and/or be achieved in part through the Recognition of Prior Learning, which includes formal learning and work experience.

    Entry Requirements:
    The minimum entrance requirements are:
  • Senior Certificate (SC) with endorsement.
    Or
  • National Senior Certificate (NSC) allowing entry to Bachelor's Degree studies.
  • National Certificate (Vocational), Level 4 allowing entry to Bachelor's Degree studies.

    Across the various modules the following assessment methods are utilised to establish the ability of the student to demonstrate the requisite outcomes outlined above:
  • Individual and group case studies, research projects and assignments, oral presentations, application of theoretical material to practical context through research reports, role plays, simulations, interviews, etc. in addition to examinations.
  • This diversity of methods ensures that the Exit Level Outcomes are assessed during the course.
