PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION
Purpose:
This qualification is the first step in a learning pathway in the field of Organisation Development and Change. It serves to provide learners with the basic introductory knowledge, cognitive and conceptual tools and practical techniques for further higher education studies in the field of Organisation Development and Change. The knowledge emphasises general principles and application.

This qualification signifies that the learner has attained a basic level of higher education knowledge and competence in the theory and principles of Organisational Development and Organisational Change, and is capable of applying such knowledge and competence in an occupation or role in the workplace. The qualification includes an integrated workplace learning component.

The qualification will enable the learners to:
  • Identify a suitable Organisation Development or Change Management project.
  • Compile a project plan and budget, and obtaining approval from stakeholders for both.
  • Design the implementation plan to support the project.
  • Design a facilitated group session for project stakeholders.
  • Write a report on lessons learnt during the project planning process.
  • Compile a portfolio of evidence, demonstrating the application of concepts and practical tools applicable to the various learning components.

    Rationale:
Organisation Development (OD) plays a significant role in building healthy and effective organisations. Organisations on a continuous basis have to deal with relentless technological, socio-cultural, political and economic change in all areas and these have serious consequences to the business. It is therefore surprising that in a vast number of cases even the basic Organisation Development principles and practices are not being applied. So many senior leaders, managers and even HR practitioners are grappling with understanding what is meant by Organisation Development and how to place it in their organisations. Knowing the why, when and the how in tackling organisational change issues is critical to any business success in the modern day world. A huge shortage of key and critical skills in the areas of organisation development and change exists and the need identified, is in the fundamental Organisation Development knowledge and skills.

Being the first step in a learning pathway in Organisation Development and Change, this qualification provides learners with the basic introductory knowledge, cognitive and conceptual tools and practical techniques for further higher education studies in the fields.

Currently there are no qualifications registered that address the deficit of knowledge and skills directly related to developing organisations addressing health and effectiveness issues in organisations at this level. This qualification provides grounding in the theory and principles of Organisation Development and the foundational methodologies used in Organisational Change.
