PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
Purpose:
The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as a Bus Driver. A bus driver drives a bus or coach to transport passengers short and/or long distances on scheduled local and or intercity services over established routes. A qualified learner will be able to: Rationale: The Passenger Service Industry requires a training system for the bus or coach drivers for energy efficient and environmentally friendly buses or coaches. The overall objective is to enhance the skills and competencies of heavy and passenger vehicles drivers to improve road safety and customer services. This new occupational qualification includes all the relevant aspects required to comply with the new energy efficient and safety legislation. The ranges of typical learners that will enter this qualification are people who would like to gain access to employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in passenger vehicles. This qualification resides as one of several in the passenger vehicle industry and makes allowance for any feeder occupations to gain access to the various heavy vehicles. The Bus driver qualification also makes provision for people to progress within this discipline to specialisation areas including heavy vehicle driving and truck driving work. The main benefit of this qualification for the learner is that the learner has an opportunity to be recognised as a qualified heavy vehicles and licensed driver with well-structured, relevant and current competencies and able to provide enhanced customer service and have access to entrepreneurial opportunities within the passenger service environment. Society will be served by qualified bus driver who not only undertakes work with improved skills but is also undertaking this work with a full awareness of the importance of energy efficiency requirements. The economy requires efficient and effective bus driver competencies for economic growth purposes as well as assists in the global move to a greener world by contributing towards utilising energy efficient heavy vehicles. |

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
Recognition of Prior Learning for access to the external integrated summative assessment: Accredited providers and approved workplaces must apply the internal assessment criteria specified in the related curriculum document to establish and confirm prior learning. Accredited providers and workplaces must confirm prior learning by issuing a statement of results or certifying a work experience record. Recognition of Prior Learning for access to the qualification: Accredited providers and approved workplaces may recognise prior learning against the relevant access requirements. Entry Requirement: NQF Level 2 and an appropriate vehicle licence. |

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA |
Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 1:
Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 2: Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 3: Integrated Assessment: Integrated Formative Assessment: The skills development provider will use the curriculum to guide them on the stipulated internal assessment criteria and weighting. They will also apply the scope of practical skills and applied knowledge as stipulated by the internal assessment criteria. This formative assessment leads to entrance into the integrated external summative assessment. Integrated Summative Assessment: An external integrated summative assessment, conducted through the relevant QCTO Assessment Quality partner is required for the issuing of this qualification. The external integrated summative assessment will focus on the exit level outcomes and associated assessment criteria. The external assessment model requires that the external assessment will be conducted through a combination of a written assessment and practical task at a registered assessment centre and marked by registered assessors. Practical tasks will also be assessed by registered assessors. The combination of the written and practical assessment will be conducted over a period of one working day. |
INTERNATIONAL COMPARABILITY |
This international comparability study was undertaken to examine the Bus Driver qualification with the level of the qualification and contents of other internationally-related qualifications. The purpose is to facilitate the development of a meaningful learning path and its associated curriculum which incorporates both theoretical and practical vocational skills to ensure comparability and compliance with existing international qualification specifications and regulations.
Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) is offered in the United Kingdom as an approved National Vocational Training (NVT) qualification. The qualification must be: Qualifications that currently meet these rules are: The Unit Group 7312 Bus and Coach Drivers in Australia from the Australian Qualification Framework registered Certificate II or III (Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations First Edition (ANZSCO) Skill Level 4) and in In New Zealand: NZ Register Level 2 or 3 qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 4). The tasks in this qualification include: Conclusion: The comparability study highlights the current status of the availability of related information on the Bus Driver occupation including the related curricula in other countries. The findings reveal that the South African qualifications are in general comparable to what is found in the chosen comparable countries. The comparison mainly extends to the contents of the curricula. The differences appeared to be in terms of levels and approaches to delivery of learning. |
ARTICULATION OPTIONS |
This qualification will enable articulation with other qualifications within the field of passenger vehicles. Furthermore learners possessing this qualification may also articulate with qualifications in the heavy vehicle driving and truck driving work. Learners who possess this qualification have options of career advancement to entrepreneurial opportunities within the passenger service environment. |
