The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The purpose of the qualification is to provide the necessary background for students wishing to proceed with a Master of Arts in Philosophy, at the university of Zululand or for postgraduate studies in philosophy at any other institution. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
1) Any Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Philosophy from any recognised tertiary institution.
2) Any programme which includes at least eight modules offered by the department of Philosophy.
3) Any qualification that includes Critical and Creative Writing modules one to four plus either 12 modules offered by the department of English or Afrikaans or Psychology or Sociology or Theology.

12 essays written throughout the year would constitute a "Semester mark", which would count 50% of the final mark.

External examiners from the departments of Philosophy at other universities.

PhD in Philosophy, selected by faculty and senate.
