Registered-data under construction

The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
This program will produce professionals specialising in the German Language and/or Literature and the main emphasis is on communication targeting business (trade), education (teaching and self study), the diplomatic service and tourism.
Fields of study may include Literature and/or Language studies, Creative Writing and Mass Media, Intercultural Studies as well as Computer based Language studies including the development of computer software for language studies and research.

An Honurs degree in the field or associated field as well as computer literacy.

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
Integrated assessment

1. A mini dissertation and in cases where a computer related field of study has been selected, the development of an own program or the evaluation of two commercial programs.

ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
Development of Language Learning/evaluation computer software.
Comparative language studies. 

MODERATION OPTIONS 
Theses and/or developed computer programs will be moderated by an internal promotor and at least one outside examiner. In all cases, moderators will be suitably qualified in the relevant field of study. 

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
Assessors will have at least a Masters degree in the field or related field and where papers in computer related fields are to be evaluated, a high level of computer literacy.

As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2006; 2009; 2012; 2015.
