PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The aim of the qualification is to equip the student/learner with knowledge, skills and attitudes for general and specialised professional information management and service in libraries or information centres. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
The overall assumption prior to admission into the programme is that the student/learner has obtained a professional qualification in Library and Information Science with an average pass rate of at least 60% and desire to pursue an additional qualification in the discipline.

Upon completion of the programme the graduate should be able to:

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
Integrated assessment

Methods of assessment consist of term papers, research project, oral presentations, practical demonstrations and at least a three hour examination in each paper. 

ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
The programme is easily equated to identical programmes offered at similar levels in South African tertiary institutions. 

MODERATION OPTIONS 
Use of internal examiners and external examiners appointed by the University of Zululand.
