The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Purpose:
As indicated in the overall degree statement, with the focus on those skills and knowledge required in the discipline of Botany.

Rationale:
Qualfied learners of this qualification will be aware of:
A variety of thinking and learning skills such as:
1. Being the consciousness of society in environmental issues.
2. Contextualising environmental issues in a cultural and social framework.
3. The career opportunities available in the many fields which make up the discipline of Botany and their application in the community.
4. Entrepreneurial opportunities through exposure to examples of the application of Botanical knowledge. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.
