PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
  • Holders of this qualification will be specialists biologists with a deeper understanding of biology, epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment and control of parasites of medical and veterinary importance at both national and international level. In addition, they will demonstrate as appreciation of research techniques in parasitology, particularly the Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Antibody Test (ELISA), Direct Agglutination Test (DAT), Immuno-florescent Antibody Test (IFAT), McMaster and Visser Sieve Techniques through the art of protocol and scientific paper writing, candidates will develop critical and independent thinking.
  • Persons achieving this qualification will be able to take up employment in the following positions where learning can continue through relevant in-service training: teachers (high school), tutors, laboratory technicians and research assistants. In addition, successful completion of this programme will enable candidates to pursue masters degree studies in the fields of medical and veterinary parasitology.
