PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION

Learners that complete the course successfully will:

Demonstrate an understanding of the theoretical and principles of in vitro culture.

Be competent with the practical methodology of in vitro culture

Be competent with information extraction on the Internet, electronic databases and traditional library information extraction systems at the local and other national universities as well as with the set up of a personal electronic literature database.

Be competent with one of the other fields of qualification in the Botany Honours degree (Systematics or Ecology)

Have had experience with scientific correspondence via the Internet

Be competent with the writing of scientific proposals, scientific reports and will have experience with the writing of scientific articles.

Have had exposure to national symposia and conferences

Be qualified to be employed as a teacher, a manager or researcher in fields where in vitro culture technology is practised

Be competent to continue with a higher degree

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Bachelor degree of Science with Botany as major or equivalent qualification acceptable to the Department of Education

Modules of this qualification will be compatible with post-graduate qualifications at other tertiary institutions in South Africa
