PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION

The purpose of the LLD is to recognise a scholar of international stature whose published works constitute a distinguished contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the field of Law.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Candidates for the LLD will normally have a PhD but this is not a requisite.

Candidates must be senior scholars with a long-held and substantial international reputation.

Recognition for prior learning:

Candidates are granted credit for equivalent prior learning.

The only outcome is that candidates demonstrate a distinguished contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the field of Law.

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Assessment is primarily based on the published work of the candidate. The candidate must demonstrate that he or she has made a distinguished contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the field of Law.

Integrated assessment appropriately incorporated to ensure that the purpose of the qualification is achieved:

Summative assessment is based on the candidate's published work.

ARTICULATION OPTIONS

This is the highest achievement possible. Candidates may continue to publish work at this level.

MODERATION OPTIONS

The thesis is examined by three external examiners.

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS

A doctoral degree and an international reputation in the field.
