PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The purpose is to produce graduates who understand the concepts and principles of integrated environmental management and development in the local, southern African and global contexts of spatial and te mporal human and biophysical interactions of the environment. The qualification aims to produce graduates who can apply their knowledge of spatial interdependencies and environmental management and development to the sustainable utilization of the South African natural and built environments.

  • ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    Learners will demonstrate their ability and proficiency in each of the learning outcomes by
    projects, assignments, tutorials, oral presentations and examinations.

    Integrated assessment appropriately incorporated to ensure that the purpose of the qualification is achieved:

    The qualification will be evaluated via individual and group projects within Capstone Modules. Capstone modules are specifically designed to assess the learner's integration of knowledge and skills throughout the programme.

    Above with the Masters degree. 

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    All assessments are second-examined by suitably qualified external examiners. 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    At present, assessors are not registered, but all academic staff members teaching on the
    programme are considered to be qualified to do so by virtue of their appointment to the academic
    posts concerned.

    All assessors are disciplinary experts for the appropriate module. Academic staff have, in general,
    at least a Masters degree. External assessors are chosen from sister institutions or from
    recognised research bodies and are qualified in the appropriate area. 

    REREGISTRATION HISTORY 
    As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2006; 2009; 2012; 2015.
