Registered-data under construction

The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Within the context of typical support modules for management studies (for example, Accounting, Economics, Commercial Law and Business Information Systems), this qualification is designed to:
  • Develop proficiency in the theory and practice of management through a knowledge of:
    > The complexity of management and employee relationships within the organisations.
    > The relationship between the organisation and its environment (social, political, legal, economics and ecological).
    > The functional disciplines within the organisation and their contribution to organisational success.
  • Develop an understanding of the need for effective communication systems in management.
  • Develop an understanding of current and contemporary legal and technical developments and how they impinge on the management function.
  • Develop an understanding of the strategic role of management.
  • Develop an awareness of ethical issues pertaining to corporate governance and management practice.
  • Build a foundation for further studies in management and entrepreneurship.
  • Develop skills to share knowledge and assist in the development of others. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
    The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

    Entry Requirements:
    The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is:
  • Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4 with endorsement.
    Or
  • National Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4 granting access to Bachelor's studies.
    Or
  • National Certificate Vocational, NQF Level 4 granting access to Bachelor's studies.

    ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    The following associated assessment criteria apply across all Exit Level Outcomes:

  • Work effectively in groups.
  • Access, analyse and interpret data.
  • Plan and organise.

    Integrated Assessment:

    The institution is currently reforming its assessment strategies to include the assessment of applied competence for each qualification. In the meantime, a combination of continuous assessment and traditional written examinations serve to assess the integration of all/most of the learning outcomes for each module in a qualification.

    Continuous assessment: assignments and projects comprise the year mark (worth 30% of the total mark) for the specific modules for levels 5b and 6
    Class presentations participation in class discussion and assignments for each module comprise the year mark (worth 50% of the total mark) at level 7.

    Final assessment: An examination for each module worth 70% at levels 5b and 6 and 50% at the level.

    This qualification compares with the following international qualifications in terms of the range of competencies in the learning content offered. 

    ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    This qualification allows possibilities for both vertical and horizontal articulation.

    Horizontal Articulation:

    Vertical Articulation:
  • Cognate Postgraduate Diploma, Level 8.
