Registered-data under construction

The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
This qualification aims to provide qualified learners with knowledge, skills and applied competence in several fields related to design, development and use of digital technologies in research, e-commerce, education and training. More specifically the qualification is designed to develop advanced skills and insights into:
  • The theoretical base and use of software tools to support research activities including reference management, debates technology and quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
  • Educational theories, design principles, communication tools required for the creations of virtual on-line learning environments and distance education.
  • Theoretical and practical aspects required for the production of digital media including graphics, animations, video and paper-based resources, and the creation of computer user interfaces.
  • Management of IT resources (e.g. networks, Internet servers, on-line educational resources).
  • Research investigations, methodologies, design and reporting in the use of digital technologies in commerce, information technology, education and training.

    It also aims to provide qualified learners with the foundations for continued personal and intellectual growth, gainful economic activity and for contributing to society at large through innovation, scholarship and leadership.

    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
    The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

    Integrated Assessment:
    Integrated assessment is built into each core module.

    The short research project examination includes an assessment of the candidate to integrate theory, research design and methodologies and technical skills.

    Continuous assessment serves to assess the integration of all/most of the learning outcomes for each module in the qualification.
