PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION

The primary purpose is to ensure learners:

Are provided with and gain, in-depth knowledge, advanced skills and applied competence in the science of professional nursing and midwifery.

And that significant numbers of internationally recognised, highly skilled person power, within all subfields of nursing science/midwifery develop personal and professional growth, contribute broadly to the health sector and both fulfil and generate economic development in south African society.

The learner will have attained the Master of Nursing Science degree by thesis or coursework, or an equivalent.

It is recommended that the moderating body be the Higher Education Quality committee of the Council for Higher Education and the relevant professional accrediting body be informed of successful completions.

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS

Appropriate staff from the Department of Nursing, U.W.C. will act as assessors within the UWC system. Quality aspects will be addressed by appropriate external assessors either national or international.
