PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The purpose of this qualification is to enable candidates to acquire an in-depth knowledge in a specified discipline within the Arts. This qualification will increase the pool of qualified personnel especially in the area of community development and address the shortage in skills.

Access to the Qualification:

Applicants should have completed an undergraduate degree or a degree recognized by the Senate of the University.

QUALIFICATION RULES 
A minimum of 128 credits are to be completed for this one year qualification. 

EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES 
A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the selected subject. The candidate will be able to express knowledge and generic research skills (delimitation, literature searches, logical analysis, balanced interpretation, structuring and expressing, abstract thoughts in a logical and coherent way, the consistent use of a system of references, etc) in this area in an integrated, logical and coherent manner through written assignments. 

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome:

Assessment criteria are demonstrated fulfilment of the desired outcomes (above) met through successful completion of all the components of the qualification and assessed through a range of methods including tests, assignments, seminars and formal examinations, in written and oral form.

Integrated Assessment:

Written examinations and short case study projects will serve collectively to fulfil the integrated assessment requirement. 

ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
Graduates may also be considered for entry into other cognate postgraduate qualifications such as master's level studies. 

MODERATION OPTIONS 
According to the University rules and procedures, all assessments at this level are externally moderated by appropriately qualified members of other universities or equivalent research institutions. 

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
Internal and external assessors for the qualification will be selected on the basis of their recognised expertise in the modules being offered. The University assumes that, on the basis of its rigorous selection criteria for appointment of academic staff (who also have opportunities for staff development in assessment), staff are competent to assess students on the modules they teach.
