PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The aim of this qualification is to develop specific skills and applied sciences in agriculture and rural development. The learners will be exposed to holist approach of understanding and interpreting agricultural and rural development problems and providing appropriate solutions.

Applicants should have completed an undergraduate degree or a degree recognized by the Senate of the University.

QUALIFICATION RULES 
A minimum of 128 credits are to be completed for this one year qualification. 

EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES 
Successful students will be able to:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how agriculture and rural resources contribute to the development of smallholder farmers and rural communities.
  • Use scientific, agricultural and rural resource knowledge and skills to support responsible decisions making to real life rural problems.
  • Solve problems individually and as part of a project team.
  • Collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate information.
  • Communicate effectively in scientific presentations and to rural communities.

    ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    Assessment criteria are demonstrated fulfilment of the desired outcomes (above) met through successful completion of all the components of the qualification and assessed through a range of methods including tests, assignments, seminars and formal examinations, in written and oral form.

    Integrated Assessment:

    Written examinations and short case study projects will serve collectively to fulfil the integrated assessment requirement. 

    ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    Graduates may also be considered for entry into other cognate postgraduate qualifications such as master's level studies. 

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    According to the University rules and procedures, all assessments at this level are externally moderated by appropriately qualified members of other universities or equivalent research institutions. 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    Internal and external assessors for the qualification will be selected on the basis of their recognised expertise in the modules being offered. The University assumes that, on the basis of its rigorous selection criteria for appointment of academic staff (who also have opportunities for staff development in assessment), staff are competent to assess students on the modules they teach.
