PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The purpose of this qualification is to cultivate a core of advanced knowledge in a specialised area to Architecture, and therefore produce graduates capable of bringing this to bear in the development of South African property industry. The qualification further aims to provide the professionally qualified graduate, with specialised skills, knowledge and values which will allow him/her to be an authority in a specialised area of Architecture and to study further at a Masters level. It adds value to the learner through enhanced career opportunities and through increased status within the property industry and recognition in the wider community.

Applicants should have completed an undergraduate degree or a degree recognized by the Senate of the University.

QUALIFICATION RULES 
A minimum of 128 credits are to be completed for this one year qualification. 

EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES 
Successful graduates will be able to:
  • Apply specialist knowledge to specialised area of architecture problems.
  • Perform high order problem solving techniques.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of finance or law or planning, technology and management and is able to evaluate the application of finance, law, planning technology and management in relation to wider local and global environmental concerns and specifically in the specialised fields of Architecture.

    Integrated Assessment:

    Written examinations and short case study projects will serve collectively to fulfil the integrated assessment requirement. 

  • ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    Assessment criteria are demonstrated fulfilment of the desired outcomes (above) met through successful completion of all the components of the qualification and assessed through a range of methods including tests, assignments, seminars and formal examinations, in written and oral form. 

    ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    Graduates may also be considered for entry into other cognate postgraduate qualifications such as master's level studies. 

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    According to the University rules and procedures, all assessments at this level are externally moderated by appropriately qualified members of other universities or equivalent research institutions. 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    Internal and external assessors for the qualification will be selected on the basis of their recognised expertise in the modules being offered. The University assumes that, on the basis of its rigorous selection criteria for appointment of academic staff (who also have opportunities for staff development in assessment), staff are competent to assess students on the modules they teach.
