PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Purpose:

Learners achieving this qualification would have the academic knowledge and research skills to be able to do independent research to make an original contribution to global knowledge and/or technology in a chosen field of study. The qualification will enable learners to be professional academic practitioners in their chosen field of specialisation.

Rationale:

This serves to satisfy the National imperatives where the government expects more students to advance to the doctoral level. On completion of this qualification the incumbent would be able to understand and conduct research independently. He/she would contribute to the pool of researchers which our country so desperately needs. The incumbent will supervise the learning of more students in the field of chemistry.

  • Models, principles, theories, techniques and methodologies in the chosen field are analysed, explained, and juxtaposed correctly in oral presentations and the written research record.
  • Appropriate Mathematical ad statistical methods are correctly applied to analyse quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Inferences, interpretation and conclusions from measurements and analyses of information are valid.
  • Presentation of both the final written thesis and oral presentations comply with international standards. 

  • INTERNATIONAL COMPARABILITY 
    The requirements for this qualification comply with those demanded of learners in other universities world wide.
