PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The(first) purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifiers with specialised knowledge, specific skills and applied competence in the field of the management of engineering technology, that provide for continued personal intellectual growth, gainful economic activity and rewarding contributions to society.

The (second) purpose of this qualification is to provide Southern Africa with specialists in rural engineering technology with a growing understanding of the design, construction and management of engineering related projects associated with the supply of energy and services to rural communities and the utilization of rural resources on a sustainable basis.
