| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| The (first) purpose of the qualification is to provide qualifiers with an integrated and effective Postgraduate-level base of knowledge, specific skills and applied competence in the field of real estate, whether in the private or public sector.
The (second) purpose of the qualification is to provide researchers capable of making a fundamental contribution to the academic corpus of knowledge in the discipline of real estate. The (third) purpose of the qualification is to provide South Africa with high-level Postgraduates able to participate in the real estate sector of the economy actively, which encompasses about 40% to 50% of the country's total assets. |

| Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy. Entry Requirement: The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is: A B Sc (Real Estate) Hons or equivalent qualification: It may be required of candidates who do not possess a B Sc (Real Estate) Hons to pass supplementary undergraduate or graduate subject courses during the first year of study of their M Sc Degree course. |

The learner will be able to: 1. Identify, analyse, develop and manage property developments; 2. Work effectively in multidisciplinary professional teams and community structures; 3. Organise and manage his/her own activities responsibly and effectively; 4. Collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate socio-economic, legal, financial, physical and marketing information applicable to property developments; 5. Communicate effectively using visual, mathematical and language skills in oral and written persuasion; 6. Manage the implementation of building technology effectively and critically, showing responsibility towards the environment; 7. Undertake and manage property developments with due regard to the built environment as a sub-system of the socio-economic and physical world; 8. Apply entrepreneurial skills in the development of the built environment; 9. Undertake independent research on any of the above; 10. Register as a valuer-in-training at the SA Council for Valuers. |
