| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| This qualification includes the various specialisations in Commerce. Please refer to "Notes" for details on the specialisations.
First purpose: To provide candidates in the private, public and voluntary sectors, who already have obtained the qualification B Comm, BComm Hons, with specialised knowledge and skills about technical and complex aspects of the economic and management sciences in order to promote sustainable growth and development and maximise prosperity in all sectors of the economy and society. Second purpose: To develop competent leaders in the field of the economic and management sciences with specialised applied fundamental and generic cross functional knowledge and skills to steer sustainable development, growth and prosperity in the most appropriate direction. Third purpose: To provide students who want to enroll for doctoral studies in the economic and management sciences, with a sound specialised academic base from which to do so and to conduct original research independently. |

| ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA |
| 1. The assessment used for this qualification ensures that the purpose of the qualification is achieved.
2. A range of formative and summative assessment methods such as dissertations, research reports, written and oral presentations, tests and examinations are used. 3. The required range of modalities is used integratively to assess whether the specified outcomes have been achieved. 4. From the assessment of samples generalising to a domain takes place in a judicious and planned way in order to ensure reliability. 5. The assessment used meets thw standard and level of achievement for NQF level 8. INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT Integrated assessment takes place in terms of a variety of procedures such as cross-disciplinary assignments, simulations, workplace assessments, dissertations, research reports, written examinations and oral presentation and examinations. |

PhD DComm Other articulation possibilities, either generic or specific: For the MComm degree: Horizontal articulation with other programmes in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences or outside faculties is enhanced by the elective modules on the master's level. Vertical articulation into a PhD or DComm in the different sub-disciplines of the economic and management sciences is common at the university of Stellenbosch and students can also proceed to doctoral programmes at most universities in South Africa |
