Registered-data under construction

The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The purpose of this programme is to enable candidates to acquire adequate research skills in Afrikaans and Netherlands within the Faculty of Arts. This requires attention to the following three important aspects:
  • A broadening and deepening of a student's knowledge in the Afrikaans and Netherlands disciplines as specified. This is achieved through course work leading to detailed literature surveys.
  • The development of basic research skills.
  • The writing of a mini-thesis on the basis of an accepted research proposal. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Students with an Honours degree or equivalent (NQF level 7) will be admitted into this programme.

    Recognition of prior learning:
    Prior learning and/or relevant experience will be recognised for entry into this programme where applicable and subject to Senate's discretion.

    2 Research is completed and evidence is produced on a limited Afrikaans and Netherlands topic of study
    3 Knowledge and generic research skills are expressed in Afrikaans and Netherlands in an integrated, logical and coherent manner through written work
    4 Abstract thoughts are structured and expressed in a logical and coherent way
    5 Delimitation, literature searches, logical analysis, balanced interpretation are conducted whilst demonstrating consistent use of a system of references

    Integrated Assessment
    The following forms of assessment are used:

    Research papers
    Examinations
    A research proposal
    A mini-thesis 

    ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    The structured masters degree leads to doctoral research in the discipline as specified. 

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Examination at this level will be moderated through an external examiner appointed by Senate. The moderating body for this qualification is the Council for Higher Education. 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    An assessor will have at least a Master's or a Doctorate degree in the appropriate subject plus a minimum of three to five years' experience in teaching the course

    As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2006; 2009; 2012; 2015.
