| QUALIFICATION RULES |
| The qualification will be awarded to a learner who has provided evidence to the satisfaction of the assessors that the stated competence of the qualification, as detailed in the specified outcomes, has been achieved, wither through education and training in a single provider's learning programme, or through experience that complies with the stated specified outcomes. |
| EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES |
| 1. identify and research a concept or problem related to Interior Design.
2. develop a brief in consultation with the client to enable the design process. 3. apply the creative process to the practical solution of two-dimensional and three-dimensional design problems, primarily within the environment of buildings. 4. apply sound technology in the practical application of Interior Design. 5. document the creative and technological process. 6. effectively communicate with clients, relevant authorities, contractors and other professionals, using appropriate media. 7. manage the practice of Interior Design under supervision. Specified outcomes: 1.1 engage in research in a specialised field of Interior Design and master appropriate research methods and techniques (c) (9 credits) (NQF 6). 2.1 analyse the complexity of the specific problem, consult with clients and possible users and summarise the needs into a workable brief (c) (5 credits) (NQF 6). 3.1 develop an appropriate concept for the specific problem (c) (5 credits) (NQF 6). 3.2 plan appropriate layouts and circulation paths (c) (9 credits) (NQF 6). 3.3 design the three-dimensional aspects to reflect the layouts (c) (5 credits) (NQF 6). 3.4 develop appropriate details as applied to the design (c) (5 credits) (NQF 6). 3.5 communicate the design visually, orally and or in written, using appropriate language with reference to culture and style, both historical and contemporary (c) (3 credits) (NQF 6). 4.1 apply the principles of construction and sound structural principles in the execution of the design (c) (12 credits) (NQF 6). 4.2 select and apply appropriate materials to realise the execution of the design (c) (12 credits) (NQF 6). 4.3 apply sound ergonomic principles and concepts as well as knowledge of services to the execution of the design (c) (12 credits) (NQF 6). 5.1 synthesise the above in a report (c) (9 credits) (NQF 6). 6.1 plan and execute presentation drawings and models to inform and explain to clients (F) (5 credits) (NQF 6). 6.2 plan and execute working drawings to enable the erection or installation of the design (F) (5 credits) (NQF 6). 6.3 plan and execute drawings for submission to local authorities for approval (c) (5 credits) (NQF 6). 6.4 write adequate specifications, using appropriate technical language (F) (5 credits) (NQF 6). 7.1 submit drawings to relevant authorities (F) (5 credits) (NQF 6). 7.2 Apply basic management principles (F) (5 credits) (NQF 6). 7.3 Apply National Building Regulations (F) (4 credits) (NQF 6). 7.4 Determine viability of the design (F) (5 credits) (NQF 6). Critical outcomes: |
| ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA |
| 1.1 A research project is completed, documenting relevant information towards solving the design problem.
2.1 Design brief is adequately outlined. 3.1 Appropriate design problems within the sphere of Interior Design are effectively solved and presented. 3.2 Planning and three-dimensional realisation are effectively solved. 3.3 Details are done to visually and practically reflect the concept of the design. 3.4 Effective visual and written presentations are done. 4.1 Designs are executed to reflect sound structure and construction, selection of appropriate materials, environmental and man-made services. 4.2 Design problem solutions incline towards ergonomic sensibility in order to add to the comfort of the users. 4.3 Working drawings are executed to reflect sound construction, structure and selection of appropriate materials. Design problems are solved displaying optimum advantage of positive climatic conditions as well as effective countering of negative climatic conditions. 5.1 A report on needs, process and solution of the design problem as well as documentation of relevant technological processes, inclding visual presentations towards illustrating the design solution, is written. 6.1 A set of drawings to include plans, evaluations, section, axonomeric or isometric drawings and/or perspectives is executed to convey the design solution to the client 6.2 Appropriate media, including proficient CAD, use are chosen and used to present the specific design. Models to a specific scale are executed to simulate the design. 6.3 Working drawings and details suitable for submission to relevant authorities and other professionals are executed. 6.4 Specifications, both on drawings and separately are done to enable tenderers to tender. 7.1 Drawings are done at a level that will be acceptable for submission to relevant authorities. 7.2 Basic business plan is compiled. 7.3 Designs are executed to comply with the National Building Regulations. 7.4 Elementary viability studies are executed. REREGISTRATION HISTORY |
| As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2009; 2012; 2015. |
| NOTES |
| While South Africa still had Technikons, all of their qualifications were registered under the Committee of Technikon Principals. After the Technikons became Universities of Technology or merged with Universities, the qualifications were registered under each of these institutions, and the CTP qualifications fell away (hence the end date of 2006, above). Where relevant, replacement information is s hown in the table above. |
| LEARNING PROGRAMMES RECORDED AGAINST THIS QUALIFICATION: |

| PROVIDERS CURRENTLY ACCREDITED TO OFFER THIS QUALIFICATION: |
| This information shows the current accreditations (i.e. those not past their accreditation end dates), and is the most complete record available to SAQA as of today. Some Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionaries have a lag in their recording systems for provider accreditation, in turn leading to a lag in notifying SAQA of all the providers that they have accredited to offer qualifications and unit standards, as well as any extensions to accreditation end dates. The relevant Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionary should be notified if a record appears to be missing from here. |
