The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The B.Com (Hons) is a postgraduate degree that will:
  • Enable learners to develop postgraduate level knowledge, discipline specific skills and applied competence in Commerce and Industry that provide opportunities for continued personal intellectual growth, gainful employment and making a rewarding contribution to society.
  • Empower postgraduates to solve commercial problems in a general and focused way, to effectively manage and allocate resources, to communicate effectively and to contribute to socio-economic transformation in a responsible and ethical manner.
  • Provide South Africa with significant numbers of commerce postgraduates, particularly from disadvantaged communities, in order to ensure that the leadership base of innovative and knowledge-based economic and scholarly activity is strengthened and diversified. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    A Bachelor's degree, or its equivalent, in an Economic and Management Sciences discipline at undergraduate level or a related discipline.

    ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    1. Industrial Psychology and public sector problems are solved in a systematic and creative way through problem identification and analysis

    2.Industrial Psychology resources and processes in a public context is managed demonstrating sound understanding

    3. Own ideas and interests are articulated and promoted via effective oral and written communications

    4. The contribution to Government by sound policy developing competencies are demonstrated by producing sample policies.

    Integrated assessment:

    The Faculty has adopted a Continuous Assessment System. Assessment consists of a number of assessment events administered throughout the year and a variety of assessment instruments are used (for example: tests, essays and practical reports, project reports). 

    ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    Vertical articulation - on completion, students may progress to a masters qualification at any other higher education institutions. The quality of performance at level 7 may determine access to the higher level.

    Horizontal articulation - Transfer of credits between institutions will depend on the respective learning programmes and unique articulation of different institutions. 

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    The recommended moderating body for this qualification is the Higher Education Quality Committee of the Council for Higher Education. 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    For all modules external, appropriately qualified assessors who have honours, masters and doctorate degrees in the relevant subjects, are drawn from other universities.
