PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Purposes:

First Purpose:
  • To equip students who are in possession of a BLogisticsHons degree with specialised and complex knowledge in order to be competent in planning, implementing and controlling the efficient and effective flow and storage of goods, services and related information from the place of origin to the place of consumption, in such a way that client demands are satisfied optimally with the purpose to maximise the prosperity in all sectors of the economy.

    Second Purpose:
  • To develop competent specialist analysts and leaders who will be able to organise complex operations which entail the allocation and distribution of physical resources.

    Third Purpose:
  • To provide students who want to proceed with doctoral research study in Logistics and Operations Analysis with a sound prerequisite academic base for such study.

    2. Demonstrated ability to collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate logistics-related data and information.

    3. Shown an understanding of the use of inductive and deductive scientific methodology in the acquisition of quantitative logistics related knowledge.

    4. Demonstated ability to identify and solve complex and diverse logistic problems in a critical and creative way by applying appropriate and advanced quantitative methods.

    5. Demonstrated to work effectively with others as a member of a logistics team in the private and public sectors.

    6. Demonstrated ability to organise and manage oneself and one's personal activities responsibly and effectively.

    7. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, using graphical, mathematical and language skills in the modes of oral and/or written presentation.

    8. Demonstrated ability to use advanced logistics knowledge and technology effectively and critically, while showing responsibility towards the environment and interests of others.

    9. Demonstrated understanding of the world as a set of related systems by recognising that logistics related problem solving contexts do not exist in isolation (in the short run as well as in the long run).

    10. Demonstrated ability to work with and apply a range of advanced quantitative techniques, procedures and experimental approaches leading to this Qualification.

    11. Demonstrated ability to apply this advanced scientific knowledge and practical skills to address theoretical and practical logistics-related problems and to learn appropriate lessons from these experiences.

    12. Specialist logisticians will, after completing the programme and gaining sufficient appropriate practical experience of approximately two years, be able to independently or as leaders:
    > Analyse, plan, implement and manage any logistical function within an enterprise/organisation on strategic, tactical and operational levels, and found decisions quantitatively.
    > Organise complex operations which entail the allocation and distribution of physical resources.
    > Be equipped to proceed with doctoral research. 

    ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcomes:
  • The assessment used for this Qualification ensures that the purpose of the Qualification is achieved.
  • A range of formative and summative assessment methods such as simulations, assignments, case studies, work-place assessments, written and oral presentations and examinations are used.
  • The required range of modalities is used integratively to assess whether the specified outcomes have been achieved.
  • From the assessment of samples generalising to a domain takes place in a judicious and planned way in order to ensure reliability.
  • The assessment used meets the standard and level of achievement for NQF Level 8.

    Integrated Assessment:

    Integrated Assessment takes place in terms of a variety of procedures such as cross-disciplinary assignments, simulations, work-place assessments, a thesis, research reports, written examinations and oral presentations and examinations.
