PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
To prepare graduates to teach Humanity, Science and Commerce subjects (e.g. English, Mathematics, General Science, Accounting etc.) at the primary or the secondary school level after completing a formative undergraduate degree (e.g. BA, B.Comm, B.Sc.)

RATIONALE FOR OFFERING THIS QUALIFICATION
To provide teachers for the primary and secondary school phase as a national resource. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
1. Candidates will have completed a formative first degree with at least five approved teaching courses (two third year level, OR two at second year level and one at first year level, OR one at third year level and two at first year level)

2. Suitability as a student for teacher education - determined in an interview 

RECOGNISE PREVIOUS LEARNING?

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Integrated assessment.

Through a system of continuous assessment, based on formative assessment strategies (e.g. portfolio, projects, reflective journals, tests, assignments) end of year examinations as well as demonstration of applied competence in a school during Teaching Practice. 

ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
Students take courses common to the other education first degrees (e.g. B.Paed - Primary) within the Faculty. 

MODERATION OPTIONS 
1. All courses are externally moderated
2. Teaching Practice moderated by school principals. 

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
1. Demonstration of applied competencies as an educator within a appropriate site
