The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
1) Provide pharmacists with an opportunity for advanced study in the pharmaceutical sciences and related disciplines

2) Provide South Africa with pharmacists with a advanced level of professional or scientific knowledge, insight and expertise in the pharmaceutical sciences

3) Equip pharmacist with research skills that will facilitate their employment at senior levels in academia, public/private hospitals, other health care institutions and pharmaceutical industries

4) Improve the health status of society, to raise the status of UD-W and South Africa as centers of excellence in applied research. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
The candidates should be in possession of a B.Pharm degree, with an average module mark of at least 60% in the field of study/ or topic to be pursued.

Assessment tools include a research proposal submission, ongoing supervision monitoring and feedback at different stages of research process and a thesis submission

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
There must be compliance with University's requirements

The assessors will be selected on the basis of their recognised expertise in the area of study. Such persons will show evidenced of the attainment of at least a Masters qualification and evidence of appropriate teaching and /or research experience.

As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2006; 2009; 2012; 2015.
