Registered-data under construction

The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The B. Com. (Management) is a formative degree that will:
  • Enable learners to develop graduate level knowledge, discipline specific skills and applied competence in Commerce and Industry that provide opportunities for continued personal intellectual growth, gainful employment and making a rewarding contribution to society.
  • Empower graduates to solve commercial problems in a general and focused way, to effectively manage and allocate resources, to communicate effectively, and to contribute to socio-economic transformation in a responsible and ethical manner.
  • Provide South Africa with significant numbers of commerce graduates, particularly from disadvantaged communities, in order to ensure that the leadership base of innovative and knowledge-based economic and scholarly activity is strengthened and diversified.

    1. Commercial problems are solved in a systematic and creative way through Financial problem identification and analysis

    2. Resources and processes in a business context is managed demonstrating sound understanding

    3. Own ideas and interests are articulated and promoted via effective oral and written communications

    4. The contribution to socio-economic challenges by sound Management competencies are demonstrated by producing sound sample projects.

    Integrated assessment:

    Across the various modules the following assessment methods are utilised to establish the ability of the student to demonstrate the requisite outcomes outlined above:
  • Individual and group case studies, research projects and assignments, oral presentations, application of theoretical material to practical context through research reports, role plays, simulations, interviews, etc. in addition to examinations. This diversity of methods ensures that the exit level outcomes are assessed during the course.

    ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    Vertical articulation
    On completion, students may progress to Honours and then possibly Master's qualification at any higher education institution. The quality of performance at level 6 may determine access to the higher level.

    Horizontal articulation
    Transfer of credits between institutions will depend on the respective learning programmes and unique articulation of different institutions. 

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    The recommended moderating body for this qualification is the Higher Education Quality Committee of the Council for Higher Education. 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    The chairpersons and lecturers in the faculty of Economic and Management Sciences will act as assessors within the quality management system of UWC at first and second level. At the third level, external appropriately qualified assessors, who have honours, masters and doctorate degrees in the relevant subjects, are drawn from other universities.
