PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
  • To analyse the health profile of different communities at various societal levels, in rural or urban, local and national.
  • To apply the scientific method undertaking assessment, planning, implement and evaluation of specific nursing problems at an advanced level.
  • To analyse selected nursing theories and other theoretical approaches in relation to their contribution in understanding and interacting with the individuals, families and communities.
  • To assume autonomy, responsibility and accountability for the effective management of nursing to individuals, families and communities in all settings, to ensure quality of care within the multidisciplinary team.
  • To utilize methods and techniques of computer for research purposes to address health care services issues or any biostatistical issues.
  • To utilize and apply the research process in health care based on recognized models and theories.
  • To use the different types of organization structures and principles to direct and utilize available resources in the implementation of plans made in the health care services.

    Vertical:

    A person with Bachelor of Nursing Honours will purse:
  • Masters degree in nursing or health related degree
  • Postgraduate diploma in nursing discipline and any health related profession

    Horizontal:

    A person who exits from the programme before completing may:
  • Obtain a certificate in computer skills

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Internal and second assessors will moderate all assessment. The programme and qualification will be reviewed periodically the South African Nursing Council and external assessors appointed by the senate of the University. This review will include teaching and learning methodologies, assessment practice, and continued fitness of the programme and qualification.
