| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| The qualifying learner will have the competence to conduct independent research under minimal guidance in a chosen field, and contribute to knowledge production in that field. Graduates of this course are able to lead people in product and process development as well as in research projects.
The explosives and armaments industry employ graduates from this course. Opportunities exist for graduates to pursue further educational qualifications. |

Models, principles, theories, techniques and methodologies in the relevant field are analysed, evaluated and used correctly in the investigation. The research problem is clearly identified, defined and detailed in a proposal for a research project. 2. The chosen route of solving the research problem, (hypothesis) directs the investigation. 3.
