PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The qualifying learners will become professional translators and interpreters in their specialized languages. Such learners will be competent in translation, language editing and proof reading various text types and be able to perform consecutive and simultaneous interpreting in various contexts. The qualified person may be able to register with the South African Translator's Institute (SATI) or any other relevant body/ association. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
National Diploma in Translation and Interpreting Practice at NQF level 5 or equivalent qualification at NQF level 5 together with a pass in an appropriate entrance test.

The qualification will be awarded to a learner who has provided evidence to the satisfaction of the assessors that the stated competence of the qualification as detailed in specified outcomes, has been achieved, either through education and training in the learning programme or through experience that complied with the stated specified outcomes.
