PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The first purpose of the qualification is to provide qualifiers with post graduate level knowledge, specific skills and applied competence in the management sciences in order to apply these in the field of sport and recreation. This includes a study of both sport and recreation as phenomenon, their management as well as social and personal value. This will provide opportunities for continued personal growth, gainful economic activity and rewarding contributions to society.

The second purpose of the qualification is to provide the graduate with the necessary background in the management of people events and programmes so that he/she will be able to further his/her studies by specializing within the field of sport and recreation management. This will lead to the improvement of the base of applicable knowledge in sport, recreation as well as its management for the economic benefit for the people of the RSA.

The third purpose of the qualification is to provide the qualifier with a questioning mind and research skill in the field of management in sport and recreation in order to contribute to the uplifting of the national as well as international profile of sport and recreation.

Learning outcomes:

This qualification will therefore create the possibility gainful employment for the benefit of the RSA.

The learner will be able to understand and address the economic value as well as dangers of sport and recreation in society. The graduate will be able to understand and demonstrate the world as being a set of related systems by recognizing that problem-solving contexts do not exist in isolation.
