PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION
Purpose:

To equip students with the ability to assess, plan, implement and maintain management initiatives within a technical environment.

Rationale:

The South African economy faces various growth challenges that inter alia, require technical management skills. These include the Joint Initiative on Priority Skills Acquisition (JIPSA) and Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa (AsgiSA).

This programme will contribute to the pool of highly trained technical managers with advanced knowledge and skills able to respond to the industrial development needs (specifically related to infrastructure) of South Africa and beyond.

It will also offer opportunities to newly graduate and mid-career engineers to undertake postgraduate studies in a field where there are distinct needs.
Engineering graduates who wish to move into technical management careers need specific management skills in order to succeed in these specialized environments. The programme will provide learning opportunities under supervision of experienced professionals and academics.
