The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.

*to enable students to undertake advanced study and original research in a field of music;

*to broaden and deepen the knowledge base of the chosen field of specialisation by the reinterpretation of existing and the generation of new knowledge

*to enable students as members of the international community of scholars to participate in and contribute to the universal pursuit of knowledge and by doing so, advance the frontiers of science

*to produce leaders in their respective fields who will take responsibility for the training of the next generation of scholars and for ensuring quality higher education in future;

*to provide South Africa with a sufficient number of highly qualified people to maintain its leadership position on the continent and to remain competitive in an era of growing global competition.

  • The assessment used for this qualification complies with the stated purposes of the qualification
  • A range of formative and summative assessments is used, but the emphasis falls on a dissertation or scholarly publications in which students have to display the desired outcomes
  • The appropriate kinds of assessment are used in an integrated manner to determine whether the specified outcomes have been achieved
  • The assessment used meets the standard and level of achievement foe NQF level 8

    DMus dissertation supervised by a member (or members) of staff and assessed by the promoter and at least two examiners selected from the student's university as well as from appropriate institutions other than this university

    The University of Stellenbosch has a system of external peer review and evaluation of departments. One of the aspects of the system is an evaluation of the standards and assessment practices of the department 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    The academic staff of the University of Stellenbosch will participate in a manner that conforms to the quality assurance system of the University

    External examiners who are specialists in their fields, and who must have at least a doctoral degree from a recognised tertiary institution, moderate all DMus dissertations
