PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The first objective of the whole qualification is to enable the qualification to act as a Human Resources Practitioner in the designing and implementation of Human Resources Management procedures and systems.

Learners will possess in-depth knowledge and understanding of the different fields of practice of Industrial and Organisational Psychology. They will also perform according to high ethical values and a professional attitude enabling them to contribute meaningfully to the national manpower development needs and policies of the country.

In addition learners will be able to apply research skills to investigate problems experienced with the procedures and processes, and to advise management on solving of these problems. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is:

    1. Human Resources qualified learners have a sound knowledge of research methods in Human Resources Management and are able to deliver a written research report of limited scope under supervision. The qualified learners will also be able to utilize the results, conclusions and recommendations of the report to create new knowledge and solve problems in all the application fields of Human Resources Management and Industrial Psychology.

    2. Group Dynamics:
    Bachelor of Commerce Honours Human Resources graduates will have in-depth knowledge of Group Dynamics methods and are able to design and implement a Group Dynamics programme in the organisation. The qualifying learners will also be able to understand how groups and teams function and influence people to achieve common goals, while the group's work and individual needs are addressed and acquire facilitation and negotiation skills to facilitate all group and team processes in the organisation.

    3. Performance Management:
    Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Human Resources graduates will have in-depth knowledge of Performance Management and are able to analyse performance problems and design and implement Performance Management procedures and processes. The qualified learner will be able to contribute meaningfully to improving the utilisation of Human Resources, the productivity and overall competitiveness of the organisation.

    3. Career Development and Vocational Psychology:
    Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Human Resources qualified learner will have in-depth knowledge on Career Development and Vocational Psychology and are able to design and implement individual Career Development programmes. Qualified Learners will also be able to support employees to maintain high levels of work motivation and job satisfaction.

    4. Human Resources Development:
    Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Human Resources qualified learners will have in-depth knowledge on Human Resources Development and are able to design and implement a human performance enhancement (training and development) process in the organisation. Graduates will be able to improve the performance of employers and the organisation through training and development qualifications.

    5. Managing Diversity:
    Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Human Resources graduates will have in-depth knowledge of managing a diverse workforce and are able to design and implement a Managing Diversity process in the workplace. Qualified learners will be able to contribute meaningfully to improving mutual respect and tolerance amongst diverse workgroups in organisations.

    6. Labour Relations:
    The Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Human Resources graduates will have in-depth knowledge of the Labour Relations field and are able to design and implement Labour Relations procedures and processes in the organisation. Graduates will be able to ensure workforce stability and productivity in the organisation.

    7. Psychometrics:
    The Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Human Resources qualified learners will have in-depth knowledge of Psychometrics and are able to design psychometrical assessment procedures and qualifications to support decision-making in the organisation. 

    ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    Continuous, formative and summative assessment practises will be applied.

    A multi-dimensional approach will be followed to assess the learners:
  • Knowledge.

  • Thinking processes.
  • Metacognition.
  • Affect.

    In addition, the cognitive approach to assessment will also be applied and learners will be assessed on their:
  • Application and use of knowledge.
  • Assessment integrated with learning and training.
  • Integrated and cross-disciplinary assessment.

    Assessment includes assessment by the lecturer(s) and peer-assessment resulting in a statement of what the learner has achieved (research conclusions, procedures, processes, etc).

    Assessment criteria will be discussed with the learners resulting in co-operative learning and products, as well as the development of collaborative skills (group discussions, group assignments)

    Authentic testing will also take place where the learners have to use the knowledge in simulated "real life" meaningful contexts and explicit criteria for assessment (case studies, simulations, role play, and applied questions)

    Multi-dimensional and cognitive assessments will be combined in assessing the research competencies of learners. The following will be assessed by the supervisor and external examiner:
  • The ability to identify a suitable research problem.
  • Ability to select and implement appropriate research methods.
  • Ability to review the literature critically and document it according to accepted scientific practices.
  • The ability to analyse the data utilising relevant qualitative or quantitative methods.
  • The ability to integrate the theoretical knowledge with empirical data.
  • The ability to formulate relevant conclusions and proposals based on the research results.

    Portfolios - written assignments based on case studies.
    Simulations.
    Written examinations.
    Oral examinations.

    Peer group assessment; self-assessment; classroom presentations.
