PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The main purpose of the qualification is to provide learners with graduate-level knowledge, specific skills and applied competence in the field of Marketing Management. This will provide opportunities for continued personal intellectual growth, gainful economic activity and rewarding contributions to business and society.

The secondary purposes of the qualification are to:
  • Provide South Africa with significant numbers of graduates in the field of Marketing Management.
  • Present course content which is relevant to and demanded by the South African marketing environment.
  • Be able to better compete - on national and international academic, business and research levels. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
    The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

    Entry Requirements:
    The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is:
  • Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4 with endorsement.
  • National Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4 granting access to Bachelor's studies.

    After completion of the qualification, the learner will have the basic knowledge and skills required for the marketing environment. The learner will also have mastered basic critical and creative thinking skills. Knowledge of marketing management skills; strategic marketing, marketing of services, direct marketing and other specialisation areas in marketing will be the basic building blocks to launch the learner on a career in the marketing environment. In addition, in-depth guidance in marketing management, strategic marketing management models will be supplied, which equip the learner with skills which can be immediately implemented within the working environment and supplemented by lifelong learning.

    The learner will have mastered basic knowledge of marketing principles and basic application skills in marketing research, sales and consumer behaviour. The learner will also be able to apply basic marketing planning skills.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcomes:

    The learner will have to demonstrate that he/she has knowledge of marketing principles. The learner will do marketing research and execute marketing plans and strategies in practice for actual organisations. Technical skills, as well as strategic thinking regarding marketing, will have to be demonstrated.

    The learner will illustrate that he/she has grasped basic computer, communication and marketing skills, as these skills are pivotal to the practical outcomes of marketing management.

    The above will be assessed through individual testing, group assessment, assignments, practical applications, projects, internships and presentations.
