Competence in this category will be demonstrated if the information and conceptual content of the work submitted by the student is correct, and demonstrates a clear ability to interpret questions, to analyse and interpret information, to communicate the resulting deductions clearly and logically, utilising the appropriate discipline-specific conventions. 2. The assessment of creative, technical and other practical skills as demonstrated in practical work assignments. This is done by means of ongoing critical discussion and evaluation of practical work, as well as an evaluation of practical work each semester by a panel of lecturing staff. Competence in this category will be demonstrated if the student demonstrates a familiarity with the fundamental skills taught, an awareness of related theoretical concepts and conventions, and a clear ability to apply these skills, theories and conventions in a practical arts project in a creative way. The third and fourth years of study are subject to external examination, while the file assessment of practical work takes the form of an exhibition of work competed in the final year of study. This exhibition is evaluated by a committee of internal markers and an external examiner. The criteria for this final evaluation of practical work are: 1. Demonstration of an appropriate competence and professionalism in the completion of a coherent body of work; 2. Demonstration of an appropriate level of conceptual competence in the formulation and production of the body of work. The assessment of the final-year theoretical submission is undertaken by two internal and an external examiner. The theoretical component takes the form of an appropriately researched study on a topic related to the candidate's are of specialisation. The research and presentation are completed under the supervision of competent members of the academic staff. Integrated assessment is achieved by evaluating an exhibition of work completed in the third year of study. Competence will be demonstrated by the student's ability to integrate the learning of the past four years in the production of a specific and coherent body of work. In the final year of study the student's competence in the methodology, administration and theory of art education is assessed in a period of teaching practice supervised by lecturing staff of the faculty of Education. |
