PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The purpose of this qualification is to develop specialist clinical skills in occupational therapy in the field of vocational rehabilitation.

Graduates will have comprehensive, in-depth knowledge and specialised skills in the field of vocational rehabilitation. An attitude of life-long learning will be fostered, ensuring self-development as well as development of the field.

Society will benefit from this qualification leading to higher efficacy of vocational rehabilitation, contributing to higher levels of employment for people with disabilities, better evaluations of impact of disease/disability/handicap on work abilities and promote occupational performance of the people of South Africa. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Entry Requirements:
The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is:
  • Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, NQF Level 7.

    QUALIFICATION RULES 
    This qualification consists of the following compulsory and elective modules at NQF Level 8 totalling 120 Credits. 

    EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES 
    Obtain and assimilate Scientific knowledge and skills to the field of vocational rehabilitation, to be applied critically in:
  • Client assessment, intervention and management.
  • Community settings.
  • Vocational rehabilitation qualifications.
  • Placement of people with disabilities.
  • Utilisation of resources.

    Practical skills and techniques in:
  • Groups (including interviewing and counselling).
  • Job analysis.
  • Evaluation of work and work abilities.
  • Focussed evaluations (including medico-legal and insurance work).

    Knowledge and skill to manage financial and marketing aspects of vocational rehabilitation services.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcomes:

    Learners are provided with clear objectives and criteria.

    Learners to demonstrate:
  • Practical competencies through the presentation of seminars, case studies and practical sessions with self- and peer evaluations.
  • Foundational Foundational competencies are by means ofemploying written seminars and written and practical exams.
  • Reflexive competencies through portfolios (client reports), development and implementation and evaluation of real vocational rehabilitation programmequalifications.

    Integrated Assessment:
  • Portfolios (client reports).
  • Simulations (group presentations).
  • Work-place assessments (real programmequalifications, job analysis).
  • Written examinations.
  • Oral examinations.

    Other:
    Practical examinations, presentations, e.g. case studies, seminars.

    This qualification allows possibilities for both vertical and horizontal articulation.
