PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The main purpose of the qualification is to provide learners with graduate level knowledge, specific skills and applied competence in the field of Communication Management. This will provide opportunities for continued personal intellectual growth, gainful economic activity and rewarding contributions to business and society.

The secondary purposes of the qualification are to:
  • provide South Africa with significant numbers of skilled graduates in the field of Communication Management
  • better equip learners with the necessary knowledge and skills to strategically mange communication in the corporate environment
  • present course content which is relevant to and demanded by the South African environment
  • be able to better compete - on national and international academic, business and research levels

    Entry Requirements:
    The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is:
  • National Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4, granting access to Bachelor's studies.
    Or
  • Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4, with endorsement.

    QUALIFICATION RULES 
    This qualification consists of the following compulsory and/or elective modules at NQF Level 5, 6, and 7 totalling 360 Credits. 

    EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES 
    1. Have the basic knowledge and skills required for the corporate communication environment. Master basic critical and creative thinking skills.
    2. Knowledge of organisational communication, team communication, communication skills from business, intercultural and international business communication, corporate communication management, strategic communication management, corporate relationship management and media management will be the basic building blocks to launch the learner on a career in the corporate communication environment.
    3. In depth guidance in corporate communication management, practical implementation of knowledge and the performance dimensions of communication management will be supplied, which equip the learner with skills which can be immediately implemented within the working environment and supplemented by lifelong learning.

    B Com (Communication Management)
    Learning outcomes:
    After the 3-year Degree qualification the learner will have grasped basic computer, communication and language skills.
    The learner will have mastered basic intra-personal communication, interpersonal communication, group/team communication, organisational communication, public communication, mass communication, intercultural and international communication management skills.

    Critical cross-field outcomes:
    The critical cross-field outcomes for the learning programme in Corporate Communication Management are as follows:

    The learner will have to demonstrate that he/she has knowledge of communication theory and principles. The learner will do communication research and will compile and execute communication plans and strategies for actual organisations. Technical implementation skills as well as strategic thinking regarding communication management will have to be demonstrated.

    The learner will illustrate that he/she has grasped basic computer and communication skills, as these skills are pivotal to the practical outcomes of communication management in the business environment.

  • Practical projects done in groups and teams and geared towards the communication management of specific business issues.
