| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| The first purpose of a DD degree is to equip the candidate with highly specialised research skills and expertise based on a broad theological foundation and training. The various fields of speciality are Dogmatics and Christian Ethics, Science of Religion, Missiology, Church History, Old and New Testament Studies, Practical Theology and Pastoral Family Therapy.
The second purpose is to provide highly skilled theologians, ministers of church and research experts who can play a leadership role in the church, community life and society. The third purpose is to establish Biblical and Christian values/ethics in society through the contribution of competent researching and teaching scholars in a specific field of theological study. The fourth purpose is to attain excellence in any field of theological study without losing sight of relevancy for South African communities. |
