PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
  • To render specialists in one of the fields of chemistry while the candidate is already involved in the industry.
  • To deliver graduates to the South-African market that will be able to contribute on a national and international level to the understanding of chemical principles and the development and applications thereof in the industry. These ideas will contribute to a growth in the South African chemical industry and lead to more job opportunities for the South African market.
  • To develop graduates to an advanced level in the ability to define problems in the chemical industry and to develop solutions for such problems in a reasonable time interval. The advanced levels for understanding molecular interactions, sophisticated spectroscopic and analytic methods needed for such decisions, will be an important part of the candidate's postgraduate training.
  • To develop graduates with the abilities to become leaders/managers of research and development in industry.
