The qualifying learner will have the competence to independently manage and integrate specialist activities within the tourism system. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Upon entry to the professional degree programme (current B Tech), it is assumed that learners should have demonstrated:
  • Practical skills and competence to support management of professional services in the tourism industry
  • The ability to formulate and deliver a tourism-related product/service
  • The ability to integrate and appraise tourism activities

    Through the successful completion of a:
  • Three-year first degree (current National Diploma) or equivalent Recognised Prior Learning (360 credits); and/or
  • Evidence of experience and professional development in tourism/hospitality.

    QUALIFICATION RULES 
    The qualification will be awarded to a learner who has provided evidence to the satisfaction of the assessors that the stated competence of the qualification, as detailed in the specific outcomes, has been achieved, either through education and training the single provider's learning programmes, or through experience that complies with the stated specified outcomes.

    1. Formulate and appraise appropriate tourism development strategies.
    Independently perform functions associated with planning and development of sustainable tourism.

    2. Strategically manage the professional services component of the tourism industry.
    Gather and analyse information relevant to the tourism system.

    1. Conduct a seminar on a chosen discipline and to produce a written seminar paper.
  • Assess contemporary tourism development strategies and make recommendations.
  • Prepare a strategic flow of actions, priorities and programmes.

    2. Demonstrate the competence to implement sustainable tourism management strategies to the industry.
  • Compile and appraise an environmental audit.
  • Identify appropriate strategic solutions.
  • Propose and conduct a tourism related market research project.
  • Research and analyse information using appropriate methods.
  • Appraise research results.

    3. Conduct research and present the findings in a written research report.

    4. Produce a thorough scientific research report, individually or as a team member.

    Integrated assessment:

    The learner's ability to integrate the elements of the programme is assessed through case studies, projects, presentations, portfolios, tests and formal examinations.

    The learners will obtain credits that enable them to exit at a NQF First degree (currently Technikon National Diploma) level and continue to professional B Tech degree/honours degree level & M Tech.
