PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION

This qualification is intended for a somatologist working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the field of somatology. The qualified learner will have the competence to devise and apply clinical and specialised Somatherapies in a health environment.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

First Degree: Somatology or equivalent
The physical ability to perform all techniques, technologies or modalities.

Recognition of prior learning:

The recognition of prior learning will be conducted according to outcomes as well as experience gained in the relevant industry.

The qualification will be awarded to a learner who has provided evidence to the satisfaction of the assessors that the stated competence of the qualification, as detailed in the specified outcomes, has been achieved, either through education and training in a single provider's learning programme or through experience that complies with the stated specified outcomes.

EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES

1. Perform specialised and/or paramedical therapies (Health and Soma therapies) within the accepted protocols of the profession

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

1. Selected soma therapies are performed within the parameters of the particular techniques and protocols
Referral network is established.

2. Research supports philosophical and scientific base, approaches and principles of Somatology.

3. Change to service, products and systems as a result of innovation, is evaluated
* Opportunities for improvement in services, products and systems are identified
* Benefits and advantages of improvement are evaluated

Integrated assessment:

Formative assessment:
Assessment of laboratory practice, assignments, projects, tutorials or oral presentations. Practical and written or oral tests.

Summative assessment:
Written or oral examinations as assessment of critical academic component of learning. Practical examinations where applicable. (See under exit level outcomes 1 - 5).

Vertical articulation with the M Tech: Somatology.

MODERATION OPTIONS

Comply with SERTEC accreditation.

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS

1. Criteria as required by SERTEC.

2. Assessors should:
- Be in possession of a relevant qualification in the Somatology field
- Have relevant experience in the Somatology field
- Be familiar with the Technikon educational system
