PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
This qualification is designed for senior managers who required to render a comprehensive, cost-effective and professional security at top management level within the organization/s that they are serving.

The qualified senior security manager/consultant (learner) will have the competence to demonstrate his/her ability to manage the total security function cost-effectively within an organization at top management level.

Complex security measures that are based on recognized scientific, security, economic, legal and business principles are applied, in order to protect assets from crime risks within an organizational environment, in order to add value (profitability and levels of service) to the organization that they are protecting from crime risks.

Learners are provided with advanced security knowledge and skills (human, technological and procedural) as well as with managerial, skills applicable to a security environment.

Analysis crime risks (i.e. quantify and qualify) inter alia, by means of statistical analysis (computer software based and manual), that can impact negatively on assets of an organisation, in order to calculate risk factors and prioritise risks.     Demonstrate the ability to understand and apply the principles of risk financing and cost-benefit ratio-analysis, with specific reference to security crime risk management, to ensure that only cost-beneficial security decisions are undertaken.

    Specified Outcomes:

    Undertake a cost- benefit ratio-analysis exercise in order to ensure that a RO1 return on investment is obtained in respect of security measures that are envisaged.

    Demonstrate an understanding of the financial terms, security profit centre and security loss centre.

    Demonstrate the ability to compile a budget in respect of a large security department.

    Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of security risk control system and measures. Demonstrate the ability to implement comprehensive and complex security crime risk control measures based on the findings of a risk-analysis exercise and cost-benefit ratio analysis, in order to protect assets form identified and prioritised crime risks.

    Know, understand and be able to apply human, as we as advanced technological and procedural security risk control measures in order to cost-effectively protect assets from crime risks that have been quantified and qualified.

    Demonstrate the ability to be able to design security evaluation or audit sheets, that are based on the security measures that are required to cost-effectively manage the crime risk factor in order that assets may be protected. Further to demonstrate the ability to conduct a security survey in order that security weaknesses be identified and rectified.

    1.1. Demonstrate that the security crime risk management programme is effective in respect of the overall management function as is reflected in the financial records of the organisation concerned, as well as by top management's perception of the security function within the organisation concerned.

    1.2. Demonstrate that written assignments that are based on relevant (industry based needs) practical case studies, are correctly compiled, presented and meet the required criteria, within the required time frames.

    1.3. Written examination questions are answered correctly

    1.4. Complete a comprehensive written assignment based on a practical case study relevant to the organization where the learner is employed, or premises that the learner if unemployed, has access top; after at a five (5) compulsory Autumn School (i.e. experiential learning) has been attended.

    Assessments of written assignments, written case studies and examinations. The qualification provides for the practical application of knowledge, comprehension and application of the study material and skills to ensure that the learners competencies can be assessed through a variety of assessment criteria and forms e.g. Formative assessment: Assignments, practical and theoretical work related to case studies, role plays, self assessment and fieldwork. 

    ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    Vertical articulation. This qualification forms the basis for access to M Tech studies. In addition it serves to contribute towards further career progress towards a senior security management/consultant.

    Certification Council of Technikons, The South African Institute for Security (SAIS) the National Advisory Committee.

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    Experience : 5 years experience in industrial security at a senior level and a qualification of at least one higher levels.
