PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
This qualification aims to provide occupational therapists with expert research skills in order to make an original contribution to the body of knowledge of the profession relevant to South Africa. The level of contribution will be comparable to international standards and recognised internationally. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

Entry Requirements:
The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is:
  • Master of Occupational Therapy, NQF Level 9.

    6. Advanced knowledge of models of practice.
    7. Advanced and in-depth knowledge of the field of practice which the research was undertaken.

  • Foundational competencies through designing a research project that is indicative of a rigorous approach and original thinking;
  • Practical competencies through scientific writing; designing, designing, testing and applying measurement instruments; and managing a research project independently;
  • Reflexive competencies through.

    1. examination and evaluation of existing knowledge;
    2. incorporation of emerging knowledge, concepts and paradigms in their research;
    3. making an original contribution to the professional body of knowledge;
    4. the ability to design research relevant to South African conditions;
    Learners to complete a thesis according to scientific norms.
