| By the end of the programme learners will be able to:
1. Master theoretical sophisticated subject matter in the field of Music Studies. 2. Demonstrate an ability to define and respond to research problems related to Music Studies in a manner that expand or redefine existing knowledge. 3. Demonstrate a capacity for independent study (including independent composition abilities, where applicable). 4. Challenge orthodox theory and practice prevalent in Music Studies for good reasons, and suggest new approaches. 5. Effectively interact and engage in debate within the academic community and performing sectors. 6. Work effectively in research teams in generating solutions for existing or newly defined questions in the field of Music Studies. 7. Demonstrate appropriate academic values, including flexibility, tolerance and responsiveness whilst understanding the provisionality of all knowledge. 8. Ability to effectively use information technology in its interface with Music Studies. 9. Actively engaged in the performance of Music in the relevant area of specialisation. Critical Outcomes 1. A dissertation on a topic relevant to the field of Music Studies. Where applicable, a portfolio of original compositions or public recitals assessed by acknowledged experts in the field. |

| Vertical articulation: D Mus degree.
Horizontal articulation: Only possible in primary phase of research / composing / creative activities. |
| MODERATION OPTIONS |
| External moderation of dissertation / original compositions / creative outputs. NORAD (Norwegian Body) moderates Choral Conducting. |
| CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS |
| The M Mus-degree or appropriate experience in the field of Music. |
