PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Purpose:
This qualification provides qualifiers with sufficient knowledge of specific disciplines comprising the field of Music Studies as well as the accompanying competencies to enhance artistic growth; Pursue further intellectual development, engage in gainful economic activity in the Music industry, and contribute to society both locally and internationally.

Rationale: 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience.

In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy. Recognition of Prior Learning will be considered for equivalent outcomes achieved from another accredited provider or on a Portfolio of Evidence and a test in music skills.

    Integrated Assessment:
    A range of innovative assessment strategies will be utilised to ensure that the overall purpose and stated outcomes are achieved. These include oral and written examinations; assignments on both individual and group levels; practical music assessments including public artistic performances; portfolio assessment of original compositions or Information Technology generated products.
