| The qualifying learner will be able to conduct independent research under minimal guidance in a chosen field, and contribute to knowledge production in that field. The research problem, its justification, process and outcome is reported in a dissertation which complies with the generally accepted norms for research at that level. |

| The qualification will be awarded to a learner who has provided evidence to the satisfaction of the assessors that the stated competence of the qualification, as detailed in the specified outcomes, has been achieved, either through education and training in a provider`s learning programme, or through experience that complies with the stated outcomes |

Specified Outcomes. 1.1 Analyse and critically evaluate the literature relevant to the field/area of investigation.(c) (20 credits) (NQF 8) 1.2 Conduct research by applying appropriate research methods and techniques independently and effectively in the research process to solve complex problems.(c) (50 credits) (NQF 8) 1.3 Report findings in an appropriate format(c) (50 credits) (NQF 8) Critical Cross-field Outcomes: 1. Identifying and solving problems and thinking critically and creatively in designing, executing and reporting on a specialised area of Clinical Technology. 2. Working effectively with specialised scientists in the particular field at a high academic level. 4. Managing one`s own time to achieve execution of a research plan and integrate all the conflicting information pertinent to the study. 5. Communication, particularly in scientific terms, in internationally acceptable style both verbally and in written reports and publications. 6. Using science and technology to contribute to the knowledge and understanding in the field is an overt outcome of this qualification. |
| ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA |
| 1.1. A comprehensive literature base is critically analysed and evaluated to establish recent trends in technologies, techniques, models and theories in the chosen field.
1.2. Models, principles, theories, techniques and methodologies in the chosen field are analysed, explained, and used correctly in oral presentations and the dissertation. 1.3. The research problem is clearly identified, defined and detailed in the research proposal where the stated hypothesis directs the investigation. 1.4. The appropriate methods and techniques are selected and applied in the collection of qualitative and quantitative data where appropriate. 1.5. Experimental research is responsibly and ethically conducted. 1.6. Logical interpretation of data reflects clear understanding of the relationship between facts in the study and the ability to evaluate contradictory information. 1.7. The inferences, interpretation and conclusions based on critical review of evidence from measurements and statistical analyses are valid. 1.8. Information sources are used correctly and appropriately. 1.9. Information technology is applied effectively in the production of the dissertation/research report 1.10. Language and numeracy skills are applied effectively and correctly in clearly communicating the research problem, its investigation, the outcome, and the recommendations.
