Competence in the application of the principles of financial intermediation to international financial systems and markets and to analyse South Africa's role and influence within such international financial systems.

QUALIFICATION RULES 
The qualification will be awarded to a learner who has provided evidence to the satisfaction of the assessors that the stated competence of the qualification, as detailed in the specific outcomes, has been achieved, either through education and training in a single provider's learning programme, or through experience that complies with the stated specified outcomes. 

EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES 
The student will have an advanced understanding of domestic and international financial systems, to prepare him/her for a career as a professional banker at a senior and executive management level.

Apply strategic risk and marketing management principles to the banking environment.

Apply principles of research procedures to facilitate effective management decision making.

The student will:
  • Have an advanced understanding of the domestic and international financial systems, markets and financial instruments as well as payment mechanisms employed in a globalised financial system; (C) 40 credits (NQF 7)
  • Be able to compile strategic plans and to implement such long term plans effectively into the operations of an organisation; (F) 20 credits (NQF 7)
  • Be capable of identifying and combating risks that may threaten the successful operation of an organisation; (F) 20 credits (NQF 7)
  • Be able to conduct research to facilitate effective managerial decision making; (E) 20 credits (NQF 7)
  • Be able to understand and identify customer needs through the formation of relationships, and to be able to compile successful marketing strategies within the banking environment; (F) 20 credits (NQF 7) 

  • ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    Determine whether the student:
  • Knows and understands the basic economic, legal management and accounting concepts and principles
  • Can identify socio-economic phenomena, issues and problems/opportunities
  • Has a knowledge of an understands commercial disciplines, can use elementary tools and techniques of economic and financial analysis
  • Can relate to and explain the socio-economic problems of the country

    Integrated Assessment:
  • Continuous assessment: written assignments, projects, tests, case studies, seminars, tutorial exercises to monitor and evaluate the student's progress and for remedial purposes.
  • End of semester/term assessments: assessment of specific outcomes conducted examinations, term papers, projects, case studies to evaluate the student's ability to understand the theory and to apply the acquired skills and knowledge in solving problems.
  • Overall assessment: the final assessment will be determined by a weighted combination of both of the above.

    A qualification at NQF Level 8 in Banking e.g: M-Tech: Banking 

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this qualification must be registered and appointed by the provider according to existing moderation guidelines of the HEQC or relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning of this qualification must be accredited as a provider with the HEQC or relevant ETQA.
  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the HEQC or relevant ETQA, according to the HEQC or relevant ETQA policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation should also validate the achievement of competencies and assessment processes as described in exit level outcomes and integrated assessment options as described in the qualification. 

  • CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    For an applicant to register as an assessor, the applicant needs:
  • Interpersonal skills, subject matter expertise and relevant working experience.
  • To be competent in the planning and conducting of assessments of learning outcomes.

    The assessor must have completed:
  • A similar qualification or from the same family of qualifications, at or above the level of the qualification.
  • A minimum experience within the relevant field.

    The subject matter experience of the assessor can be established by recognition of prior learning.
