2. To provide qualifiers with competence in advanced statistical research skills in selected statistical areas.
3. To empower the local leadership base with specific statistical specialisation.
4. To provide South Africa with specialised statisticians in teaching, economics and technology.

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is:
  • Master of Commerce in Statistics, NQF Level 9.

    1. Conceptualise, evaluate and understand theory and models in statistics at a Doctorate level.
    2. Identify, access, formulate and solve problems of statistical nature in society, by being able to meaningfully observe and identify such situations, to interpret these observations in terms of statistical theory and to reach logical conclusions on a Doctorate level.
    3. Identify and solve problems of statistical nature in science and in real-life situations.
    4. Work effectively, individually and in co-operation, with others and other institutions to collect, analyse, organise and interpret empirical information scientifically.
    5. Use statistical methodology to benefit quality of life.
    6. Demonstrate and understand the role of statistics in a multidisciplinary context.
    7. Reach his/her full potential as a competent statistician both on a local and global level.
